Mini-Mos Community Fun Run

The Mini-Mos story

MINI-MOS started back in 1982, when a small team of Mosman Public School committee members and dedicated parents, led by Agnes Levine, wanted to do something just a little bit different to raise funds for the school.

“The City2Surf had been around for a while but there was this growing popularity with fun runs so we thought we’d give it a try and it sort of took off from there,” said Agnes.

“We did a lot of visiting other fun runs, going out and seeing how they ran and that’s where the learning came in. Appealing to the running community was the challenge.”

Agnes, with her children Judith, Aaron and Naomi in tow, spent weekends ahead of MINI-MOS visiting other fun runs around the city, handing out flyers promoting the event.

It worked - the first MINI-MOS, a unique run-and-combined-fair, raised an incredible $25,000 with hundreds of runners taking part.

“The whole day, the whole atmosphere was wonderful. It’s fantastic to see it still going so strongly,” Agnes added.

Since then MINI-MOS has gone from strength to strength, with millions raised and thousands of runners taking part, including Prime Ministers, Olympians and TV personalities.

The theme for this year’s race is #LEGENDS. Ambassadors for this year’s race include Local Legends who are getting behind the event - Amber Sherlock, Tom Williams, Rachel Gilbert, Belinda Russell and Mark Beretta. With Local Race Legends including Owain Matthews, a two-time athletics world age champion, as well as long distance runner and multiple Mini-Mos winner Ed Goddard and young Poppy O’Brien, the seventh-fastest U14 in Australia, third in 5km (at 12yo) in the 2019 Mini-Mos. And our Volunteer Legends: All those Mini-Mos volunteering legends who have ensured the event has kept running for 40 years.

The race is complemented by a spectacular fair with goods stalls, fun activities for children, and various rides. For race information and registration, visit the official Mini-Mos website.

Supporting our School and Charities

All the money raised by race registrations, sponsors and from the fair goes directly to Mosman Public School, helping to fund additional teaching resources, new technology and infrastructure improvements. In previous years MINI-MOS has helped fund new play equipment, artificial turf for a soccer pitch, additional teaching resources and air conditioning for classrooms. We raised over $110,000 for the school in the last live event in 2019 and hope to go even better this year around.

MOSMAN PUBLIC SCHOOL’S CHARITY PARTNER: BE CENTRE FOUNDATION

Be Centre Foundation has been selected by Mosman Public School as their charity partner for 2022 and 2023.

Mosman Public students will engage in a series of fundraising events in classes during the lead-up to MINI-MOS to raise funds for the foundation.

“The past couple of years have been challenging for everyone as we navigate through the COVID-19 pandemic,” said CEO Michelle Carlyle.

“One of the Be Centre Foundation’s key missions is to help children who have experienced trauma and/or other challenges. Through play therapy, they are able to heal so they can reach their potential.

“As Australia’s leading play therapy organisation, we understand the importance of early intervention and providing children a safe space so they can play out their challenges and make sense of their situations.

“We can’t wait to experience our first Mini-Mos. All charity funds raised during the Mini-Mos campaign for Be Centre Foundation will go towards supporting Be Centre’s work of helping vulnerable and underprivileged children get the support they need to thrive and not just survive.”

SPONSORS

David Murphy Residential were once again the major sponsor of MINI-MOS. “Myself and the team are excited and proud to be the Major Sponsor again,” said David. “This year we are celebrating the 41st Anniversary of the Mini-Mos and paying homage to the legends (past and present) who have contributed to make this the best community event on the calendar.
